People maintain excess weight for various reasons. Most are hidden in the unconscious, but they're all psychologically based.
Here are just a few motivators for staying overweight:
1) I can avoid having to deal with the complexities of a romantic involvement.
2) I won't draw as much attention, and struggle with feeling self-conscious.
3) If someone breaks up with me, I'll have to look no further for reasons I've been left than blaming my FAT for this painful outcome, and getting to vilify my ex for being so shallow.
4) my extra padding gives me a sense of insulation and safety. I never have to worry about getting TOO close to another, 'cause it's physically impossible.
5) Even though I know I'm a good person, I can't own it for myself on a cellular level. If someone rejects me, it's easier to scapegoat my body flaws for it, than to examine more deeply how and why I push others away.
6) I'm used to apologizing for myself, and settling for less than I really want. If I get thin, what will my expectations be~ and can they ever be fulfilled??
7) I developed a dependable, trusted relationship with food when I was very young. It was in fact, the ONLY bond I was able to rely on for any comfort and soothing, when I felt bad. Humans can't be trusted. Infinite varieties and types of food, CAN.
This is only the tip of the emotional eating iceberg, folks. I was a compulsive eater well into my mid-late 40's, before I dismantled that issue for myself. All forms of addiction have an emotional basis. Learn more about Yours.
