MIND vs What Matters
When we have no real spiritual center of gravity and little emotional growth to anchor and ground us, we tend to engage in obsessive thinking in an effort to find some inner peace and resolution to our current problems or predicament.
It never works, by the way. Your MIND is your worst enemy during these painful episodes. It keeps circling the drain while it tries to make sense of difficult feelings deep inside you, that are needing support and soothing.
Mental hyper-analysis is precisely what you started doing as a 2 year old, to understand your pain, so you could RESOLVE it (or so you thought). How's that worked out for ya so far??
