NOBODY CAN REPAIR A HEART CONDITION, WITH BRAIN SURGERY.
BPD is due to early-onset developmental arrest. Toddlers learn very quickly, which emotions are safe to feel and express at home, and which are not.
Dissociation from various feelings disrupts emotional maturation, resulting in poor impulse control, no healthy sense of boundaries and a lack of empathy (the ability to identify with and relate to another's perspectives, inner emotional experiences and pain).
All addiction is related to one's inability or unwillingness to experience and express certain difficult or painful feelings. The need to escape or numb one's emotions drives a litany of acting-out behaviors and/or reliance on substances or activities which temporarily distract from inner pain and alter one's mood.
Alcoholism is never the problem with individuals who abuse liquor~ sometimes, to the point of blacking out. A deep set of core wounds to one's sense of Self during infancy and early childhood, IS the problem~ for this is the thrust of how personality disorder traits are implanted.
Recovery programs are NEVER, the answer for addicts. They're deprivation based, and ineffectual, or people wouldn't keep returning to treatment centers for several more stints, and continue to do battle with residual cravings, lifelong.
Getting truly WELL is literally a process of emotional growth, and so is full recovery from substance abuse, compulsive eating, porn, sex, and all other addictions. It's about re-routing neuro-pathways in the brain, using specific tools to deprogram one's self-critical inner dialogue. It's keeping them outta their head when they begin to feel painful emotions in their body, and patiently teaching deep breathing and self-soothing techniques to help clients re-associate with their full repertoire of emotions they had at birth.
Psychotherapy does not dismantle personality disorders, because this is not a problem that can be mentally analyzed or treated cerebrally. The emotional age of the Borderline client is too young to be responsive to such measures, regardless of how 'psychologically savvy' they sound and appear.
It's never a Borderline's head that needs repair. It's their heart. Any modality of treatment that meanders thru endless ANALYSIS of feelings, searching for the magic key that will ultimately mitigate a client's core trauma pain, is in my view, unethical.
In short, no rational individual consults with a BRAIN surgeon, when they have a HEART problem~ and you shouldn't, either.
