"The Handmaid's Tale" ~The inimitable, soul-crushing horror you can feel when Life's imitated Art, and nobody's even thought to heed the warning.
People have raved about "The Handmaid's Tale" series for years, but like "This is Us" I didn't pay much attention. Well, my friends~ all I can say is, YIKES!
This series is so disturbing, yet so addictive, it haunts you, like that 1/2 gallon of butter pecan ice cream you have sitting in your freezer, and go at with a fork when you think your body can manage the indulgence.
The Handmaid's Tale is available on Hulu, and some of you are likely thinking, how the fuck hasn't Shari SEEN this series long before now? I can't give ya a good answer, except to say I'm often put off by the title of a series or movie (like, "True Romance", and until somebody whose opinion I respect says, YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS! I procrastinate~ often, for no good reason.
I'm currently in season one, episode 3, and thinking, Christ almighty! This series is as PRECISE a metaphor as you could possibly hope for, of what's going on in our world today under the Biden regime! Elisabeth Moss's character states, "this was happening for awhile, I just didn't notice" or something to that effect, in reference to hyper-controlling, unconstitutional militant aggression toward innocent citizens, seizing of their bank accounts, unlawful firing from their jobs, systematic elimination of small businesses, and freedom only among the elite few, who incarcerate and murder law-abiding people and dominate every aspect of their life under mind-bending authoritarian rule.
I'm thinkin' as I watch each captivating episode, wow, this series was so far ahead of its time, it's utterly prophetic! Who knew?! Anyhow, it's making me even more glad I finally subscribed to Hulu!
I'm sure a lotta people who loved this series when it first ran, didn't have even a shred of recognition about the political parallels it's making to our savagely fucked-up (current) administration, but if you watch this series with an open mind and you're even relatively bright, it'll make you gasp in horror, because it's literally a blueprint for the subtly encroaching insanity that far too many are calling "normal," today.
