If you hire someone based on their religion or race regardless of whether their skills and acumen meet the criteria you have for the job you’re having them step into, you’re signing your own business’s death sentence. Long ago, certain laws were passed that forbade discrimination in the workplace. This meant you had to be an “equal opportunity employer,” or there’d be hell to pay. These laws were sound. People of ANY color or creed could be considered for a position in a company, based on their MERIT. In short, a white person being chosen over a black or Hispanic person (or vice-versa), had to be a better qualified applicant for the job being offered. This practice is called, meritocracy.
